Ali M’s Isolation station – How accurate are online cosmetic virtual try ons?

How accurate are online cosmetic virtual try ons?

Hi all
Today in my isolation station when many of our stores are closing to the general public , I decided to test how accurate virtual try ons for cosmetics are. I took my Charlotte Tilbury hot lips 2 collection and compared the virtual picture to the actual picture. Let me know which try on you think is closest to the actual picture. Do you think virtual try ons are effective enough to make a decision online? From my observations I give you some tips for possible pitfalls to look out for and hope you find this helpful.

As usual, all opinions are my own. None of my videos are sponsored and I don’t receive any commission from any of my videos. There are no affiliate links which basically means that my links take you directly to the website without being tracked from this video. I bought all the products with my own money unless clearly stated otherwise during my video or in the description bar. All this is my way of telling you that I have no vested interest at all in telling you that a product is good or bad.

Please also take account of my skin tone (tanned Eurasian olive undertone- NC35 in Mac )and skin type (combination) when deciding on whether a product is right for you to purchase. This video is intended as a guide only – the decision to purchase is entirely down to you.

And last but not least – thank you for watching!

  • So clever Ali! Take care 🤗 I always thought that Patsy Red would be a more blue red than it looked on you. This was John Lewis’s try on, do you remember what the good ones were? In Love with Olivia is gorgeous on you. I think your assessments were spot on.

  • They’ve standardized the lips and the colours by group. I think they need to readjust the app completely as not true to colour or lip shape. Generally you could decide if you’ll like what it does to your colouring but it’s not clear really.

  • This topic is genius. It’s something we’ve all wondered about. And I agree that some virtual try ons definitely do a better job representing shimmer. The red tones were truest but I wonder if that’s simply more by luck than design. Add in that screens can never be truly color correct. It’s such a gamble. You’re right, tho, darker mattes work best but still only give about a 50% representation. This video was so interesting. Such a creative idea. Have never seen it done before.

  • Hi Ali I thought the first 2 looked the same in virtual. Amazing Amal looked closest in my opinion. I done the virtual try on of the new CT quads it didn’t do any of them any justice I wouldn’t buy any if I only went from that but they are all beautiful when you do tutorials. Maybe you can try the CT virtual and see what I mean maybe do a video if you want to if not it’s ok just an idea xxx
